Daily Reports – China – 13th of April 2015

October 1, 2015

Filled the kettle but forgot to turn it on.

Forgot I was even making tea.

So many languages half learnt. Even my own.

Still trying to find the right words.

All the things waiting on my bed and sofa.

I just keep sitting.

Medellin 11/4

April 11, 2013

I am awake, as usual, despite best intentions. Never watch a good movie before bed. I pee, just ’cause, and peer out the alley window. The brick-scape telescope upwards shows orange mash potato clouds. Light pollution isn’t too bad when the only stars I know are half a world away. I want to see more of them from the roof of our apartment block. And more of the Medellin skyline at night. It isn’t the buildings that shine, but the lights that glitter like lawn fairy-lights all the ways around the surrounding hills. It can’t be that magical. The effort to get slippers and keys is greater, but at least the front balcony is right here. No skyline, but the street below. The scene reminds me of an orange lit night time 70s film. Vintage 3 story apartment blocks, misused cars and a leafy, tree lined boulevard. Or even an LA street around when Hollywood fell on Black Dahlia times. A dark, scruffy homeless man saunters down the middle of the road exiting stage left. I thought it was the usual guy, but as this one leaves, old mate appears from the right like a strange illusion. He looks about, thinking on something, then plants himself behind his makeshift home and out of view. I wonder what he was thinking at this hour? He certainly was not to bed. Do I really want to know what he was thinking? What logic runs through him? How he justifies it to himself? It’s probably crazy, maybe scary, but worse still it could make sense. Most homeless sleep in the midday and I wonder why I don’t do the same as I can’t sleep most nights. But I feel it now from the harsh glow of a computer screen. A modern day bed time story.
