22nd of May, 1:53pm, drinking coffee, listening to Vektor and sitting at my table…
May 22, 2013Welcome to the World of Table! Yes, I am here again, sitting, staring outside at the rain and the sunny skies. There is something awfully right about that. My last month in Medellin has been punctuated by this table, with its dark sturdy body, and its little glass window in the middle supported by wrought iron curves and flowers…so without further ado, my next poem, An Ode To Table!
No, it hasn’t gotten that bad, but my last month in Medellin is going to be also the last month of my Master’s, which means a lot more sitting to look forward to. If you have read any other free verse from Medellin, then you may know that one advantage of my table vantage is the homeless couple that live/manage the street below my apartment; a man and his dog. I have named them Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis for their respective personalities. Ahem…with that said…
…I have not added many more reflective free verse on the city of late, but that will change. I was looking through some old projects of mine, and have been re-inspired by one I titled, “Toilet Door”. Poems inspired by the public spaces, public art, scrawlings on walls, vomit on sidewalks, graffiti and garbage alike. The song of the city, with all its cancerous coughing and whisky breath.
This may be just a creative way of labeling getting drunk in the streets midday Thursday as research…but if Life imitates Art, I should start writing poems about doing that first to start my study. So, before I drift off into daytime reveries of weekend festivities, I will say…oh, no, too late…
